We bought a radian 65 for my oldest son when he was moved out of his infant seat about 4 yrs ago, but since we loved it so much, we decided to get this upgraded seat for our new baby. He LOVES this carseat so much. We are just now moving up from the infant seat since our guy is still so little (not even 17lbs at 10 months). this seat was SO easy to install-- even rearfacing. It's much more "cushion-y" than their previous seats so that's a nice upgrade for them. We love how narrow the seat is so we actually have room in our car for another carseat and another adult to ride in the back if necessary.

a possible con for the seat (for those that are concerned) It is a rather tall seat because it accommodates up to an 80lb child. We have a pontiac vibe so the passenger seat is moved up rather far and isn't too comfortable to sit in for long periods of time and will definitely be a problem for those that are taller than average. To us-- our child's safety is well worth the discomfort and doesn't bother us at all.
love it

Excellent seat! Easy to install. Opted against the infant seat by chicco for several reasons.
1) knew she would get too heavy to carry her and the seat for more than a couple months.
2) this is safer and it makes sense to spend a little more money on one great seat, than two ok seats.
3) fits in my small car, unlike some of the bulkier choices.
4) easy to install

some helpful tips
whatever you decide, go somewhere that allows you to try and fit the seat in your car first
do not attempt to put it in by yourself, especially if you are 6+ months pregnant (may result in meltdown)
go for safety not convenience
this is a great brand, i never heard of it before, and am very happy i went with it over the britax
Comfy and safe for my 21 month old!

We are extremely happy with our Sunshine Kids Radian XT Convertible Car Seat, Hampton (Purchased on 10/28/2009)
by Sunshine Kids. We were actually pleasantly surprised that it arrived so quickly...only took a couple of days to get here! Our son seems very comfortable in this car seat and is able to sleep soundly when traveling or napping. I really like that he can continue to be rear facing in a 5pt harness until he is 35 pounds or 53 inches. It was easy to install and we love the Sunshine Kids Ultra Mat, Gray that we put the car seat on top of. We actually bought 2 of these car seats, one for each car. We will buy 2 more when our infant grows out of his infant car seat. We are extremely happy with all of the safety features!
Great seats! Exactly what we needed!

We have a toddler and twin girls and bought a Prius before we knew that we were going to have a set of twins. We just weren't ready to upgrade to a mini van. The seats all fit perfectly and are comfortable for all our kids. They are heavy, but we don't carry them around ;-) - installation was ok. Would recommend it to anybody!
Mostly awesome

Reviewer: Nanny Lulu,
I upgraded to the XT's from the 65's about a month ago after I was in an accident. I like the chest clips, but I miss the velcro on the straps! They held the little buckles up, now my little buckles always slide down into the seat. That's really my only complaint. I could knit-pick and say it's hard to tighten the harness while rear-facing, but honestly, the Radians saved the lives of the triplets I nanny (it helped I kept them rear-facing well beyond 1 & 20 too)...so I will always love these seats! They are narrow enough for 3-across, they can be top-tethered while rear-facing. Higher weight & height limits keeps them safer longer! Gotta love that!
Wonderful car seat!!

This is the most amazing car seat! It is very compact, yet our daughter (6 months old) has plenty of room in it. Our 4 year old son even sits comfortably in it! However, the seat does take up a bit of space when it is rear-facing, but it still fits in our 4-runner, with the seat back far enough for my husband. If we needed more space, we could put the car seat in the middle though. Also, some have commented that the car seat is heavy, well, I think the weight is a good thing because it is made of steel, not plastic! It is a very manageable weight when you use the carrying strap. And I am sure that if you purchase the additional strap to carry the seat like a backpack, then the weight would be very easy to carry. Overall, we are so pleased with the seat that we are considering replacing our son's car seat with a Sunshine Kids! Oh, and I believe that the car seat is the same model that is sold in the UK and Germany (that was what I gathered from their website). If that is true, then these car seats pass much more rigorous safety tests than American companies (including the American side of Britax) do.
Very Good Car Seat

We love this car seat. my kids ride very comfortable in this car seat.
It is sturdy and the padding is good, the fabric is very nice, the head rest/SIP is perfect.
We love everything about this car seat. I am ordering another one for other child, so all of them can have the same car seat.
Great Car Seat

We purchased the Sunshine Kids Radian XT in the Hampton color for our rapidly growing 6 month old son. In general, the seat is great. It is very sturdy, the folding feature is very handy, and it is generally well thought out. There are a few minor quibbles, however, that led to my 4-star rating.

Pros: Nice design, quality fabrics, sturdy construction, on-board stowage for straps and buckles when not in the car, folding feature makes it easier to carry.

Cons: This thing is huge! When installed in the rear facing position, the seat in front of it has to be so far forward in my wife's Subaru Legacy Wagon that there is no way that either of us can ride in the front seat. When installed in the other vehicle (Honda Ridgeline), things are okay. This may have something to do with the seat in the Subaru, but it's difficult to say.
Love it

I bought Sunshine Kids Radian XT Convertable for our little girl (12 months) a few months ago.
So far we like it. Here's why:

1.It is narrow (leaves lots of space in the back for other people driving with us)

2.It can be rear facing (which is the safest way to ride for our LO now, but when she is 30lb we'll forward face the car seat)

3.It has a head support (so she can nap comfortably)

4.It folds (we are bringing it with us on the airplane for a trip in November)

I'm glad that our daughter, though still rear facing, can actually see out of the windows while being in this car seat, so the rides are not boring anymore.

Yes, it is heavy, but built solid.

I'd say, go for it.
Awesome seat!

We did a lot of research on seats and are so happy we chose the Radian XT. Our daughter loves it and seems to be very comfortable. It is heavy...no doubt, but worth it for a solid, stable and safe seat. Fits perfectly rear facing in the back of my Tribeca and my husband's Tacoma, with plenty of room on each side for passengers. The pink is bright for sure, but it is fun and our daughter will like it more as she gets older and can put herself in the seat. Very easy to install, adjust the straps, etc. You will not be disappointed with this seat!!
Love it

Reviewer: Kimberly Valdez,
This car seat is awesome and all the negative things that I read about it before buying it are definetly outweighed by the positive. i own a 2008 jeep patriot and have three small children. I needed to be able to fit three car seats across the back seat. With only 51 inches of hip room this seemed tough the radian made it easy. Even with two other larger carseats it would fit fine. Also i love the side wings on the XT it makes me feel like my childs head would be very protected in the event of a side impact crash. My three year old whom is very tall for her age at 41 inches still has pleanty of growing room I expect to be able to keep her in a harness till she is atleast six years old in this seat. Yes it is heavy but not any heavier than the britax frontier and it folds making it easy for traveling. Love it will be buying another one for my other daughter.
Great carseat!

Reviewer: Mom of Many,
I find this seat to be very sturdy! We also have a Britax and although I love the ease of installation and ease of use with the Britax, the Radian XT has features that are more important to me! I love the low profile of the seat and how narrow it is. The Marathon would NOT fit between our two other seats, where the XT fits easily. I was worried that because the seat was more narrow, there wouldn't be enough room for the baby, but that was not the case. There is plenty of room and most importantly, the seat of the Radian is DEEP, allowing her to rearface comfortably for a lot longer than the shallow seat of the Britax. I LOVE the material! So much cooler than the Britax and a lot of other "plush" seats!
This seat is heavy, but it is made with steel, I would be shocked if it were light. It does fold up for travel and even comes with a carrying strap.
Whatever carseat you get, make sure it fits your car and your kid properly! THat is the only way you can ensure you have gotten the "safest seat"
Just not a nice as Britax

Reviewer: Julias Mom,
I am one of the first to receive the new Radian XT. I also own a Britax Marathon that we are moving to Daddy's car. For the price, I expected this seat to have the same "high quality" feel as the Britax line. The fabric is not nearly as nice as Britax. I can already tell that the belly bad will be ripped and missing in a few weeks.

We purchased this seat because of the slim line and portability. The folding feature and the ability to fit 3 across are what sold us on this seat. Yes this seat folds up. But it is extremely heavy!!! The Marathon feels so lightwheight in comparison. And I am sure that fitting 3 across would be a very tight installation with lots of manuvering.

Yes it is nice to have a seat that goes up to 80 pounds. But my daughter is likely to outgrow this seat in height well before she reaches 80 pounds. Sunshine kids does not offer the side impact wings in the Radian 65 or I would have rather purchased that seat for 100 bucks less. I waited weeks to get the new XT radian because of the side impact wings. Not really sure that they are worth the wait and the extra expense.

The installation is not as smooth and seamless at the Britax. But it does fit very secure after following the complicated instructions.
If you have a smaller child or infant...I would recommend the Marathon over the Radian. But for an older child I would go for the Radian. It has a nice low profile that is easier for the child to climb in and out.
